How has your background experience helped you to write this book?
Christiaan:
I’ve been part of Windows 365 from the beginning and have built a close partnership with the Intune engineering team. As a product manager at Microsoft, I got an opportunity to drive various features such as the Windows 365 app, Switch, Boot, and most recently Microsoft’s Windows Cloud and AI strategy. All of this has helped me in writing this book, with Per.
Per:
Having had more than 25 years’ experience in device management helps when sharing best practices on how to manage and secure Windows. For the past five years I’ve been part of the Intune engineering organization working closely with our biggest customers, getting feedback on what is not working for them when moving to cloud native Windows management.

What part or parts of the book are your favourite(s), and why?
Christiaan:
My favorite part is the Windows 365 chapter where we explain new features such as Windows 365 Boot and Switch that allow end users to connect to Cloud PCs directly from within the Windows 11 logon screen or task view integration. My other favorite chapter is the one on Copilot as it shows early insights into how this will change the future of IT management inside Microsoft Intune. Do also not forget to check out the Intune Suite chapter with a wealth of new product insights covered there too.
Per:
My favorite part of the book is the chapters that cover how to secure Windows. With the cybersecurity threat landscape becoming more and more advanced, it is crucial that IT pros know how to configure Windows security features.

In what ways have you been active in the community?
Christiaan:
Since 2015, I’ve been a reoccurring participant in many community events (both EUC and endpoint management). Speaking at larger industry events as a keynote speaker as well as writing books is something I like to do as my personal way of giving back to the communities for all the work IT professionals do for Microsoft.
Per:
As a public speaker, I attend the MEM summit and WPNinja summit in Europe. I also attend the local WP Ninja monthly online to share knowledge.

This comprehensive guide covers the fundamentals of administering Microsoft Intune, from licensing to device management, while providing practical tips and best practices. With powerful features like automated remediation, endpoint analytics, and seamless cloud integration, Intune empowers IT professionals to stay ahead in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
Mastering Microsoft Intune - Second Edition enables you to enhance device performance, safeguard organizational data, and facilitate a seamless transition to modern management solutions.

About the authors
Christiaan Brinkhoff: Around 17 years ago, I discovered my interest in IT after replacing the existing case of my Pentium 3 personal computer for one with a transparent LED side-panel. From that moment, I found a new hobby, and I decided to study computer science to make from my hobby my job. After finishing my degree earlier than expected, I started my career as a system engineer.
From the start of my career, I knew that this was the work I want to do for the rest of my life - and started to specialize myself in Server and Storage, Virtualization and Application and Remote Desktop solutions. I learned as much as I can, achieved as much as vendor certificates possible to gain in knowledge. I'm that type of guy that wants to know everything before I start something. Even when I buy something small in a regular shop, I always do my homework. Furthermore, during that path, I felt energized and challenging. However, after achieving all the accolades, such as MCSA, MCSA, CCIA, CCE-V, etc. Meanwhile, I changed roles in different companies and climbed up to positions such as, Senior Consultant / Cloud Solutions Architect. After that, I honestly was a bit bored, got stuck for a while and decided to work on a new personal project - to share the stuff I learned.
One exciting moment in life I can remember before I started presenting was a barbeque with friends and friends from friends. I talked with people that I never met before, and you always receive the obvious question. What are you do for a living / where are you working? I usually answer the question with, I do something with computers for companies. This moment was different, I felt that this person was technical, so I explained to them how Desktop Virtualization works from a to z without any practice - resulted in an excellent conversation, with feedback as; why are you not starting as a trainer or professional presenter - you explain it so well even for people (like me) that are not educated in IT technology - that's an excellent quality you have there. Usually, I'm like, yeah let him talk... But now I took it seriously and considered to start presenting.
"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough."
A great quote from Albert Einstein - which always reminds me to stay focused, understand the insights before we share them with others. Doing things to help others, without requiring something in return. You are not only helping others, but you will gain a higher level yourself. It gave me the confidence to speak publicly about passion and innovated technologies.
Thus far, my career has led me to present to thousands of attendees at many international conferences and user groups. I've also been invited to join the Microsoft MVP, Citrix CTP, and VMware vExpert programs, which provides me with unique access these vendors and gives me an opportunity to shape their roadmaps. In fact, I am one of only five people in the world to hold all three acknowledgements at once
After years of consulting, I decided to start my own consulting company. At the same time, FSLogix asked if I wanted to join the company as part of their global technology evangelist team in the EMEA region. This new role, combined with consulting work, gave me the opportunity to learn from customers, help FSLogix improve their products, and inform the community about all the things I've learned.
At the end of 2018, Microsoft acquired FSLogix. this was a massive acknowledgment by the largest vendor in IT technology. How awesome was that? I still remember the phone call of FSLogix CEO - Kevin Goodman when he shared the intent by Microsoft to acquires us. I was devastated, a real honor, but as well a bit weird because I didn't know what to expect. Will this mean that our great team will fall apart? Right now, I know different. The acquisition changed our roles and we become Microsoft Windows Virtual Desktop global black belts. Where we are using all our knowledge that we gain as part of a startup company around desktop virtualization to position the product in the best way possible in the market. As part of the MVP community, I knew that Microsoft was working on a new Desktop-As-a-Service offering in Azure, however, although I never expected to be part of that same evolution in technology! As you can see, I'm pretty excited about what's going to happen in 2019.
Looking in the rear mirror now, after being active in the community for around three years now, I honestly never imagined what (positive) rollercoaster ride it would be. I did not expect anything, the only real goal I had kept challenging myself and doing things I like, share experiences and gain in knowledge. The primary purpose of this book initiative is similar. We give people from the community an easy way to share their best practices, principles, recommendation or quotes that can help you and me to gain in knowledge and eventually your career as well. By the Community, For the Community...
Today, I'm working as Principal Program Manager and Community Lead for Windows 365 at Microsoft, leading community initiatives while bringing his expertise to help customers imagine new democratizing virtualization experiences that go beyond Desktop-as-a-Service and will simplify the enablement for remote hybrid work. Again, taking all my experience into practice!
"Do what you'll love, and you'll never work another day in your life."
It sounds easy, right? When you are passionate about something and considering doing community work. Start doing it - it brings great things for you and the people around you!
I also would like to thank everyone for supporting us in this initiative. I personally never expected to receive so much positive feedback and contributions from people that are active in the communities. THANK YOU!

I give it 4 stars because the packaging is poor and it only comes in the box which with the movement mistreats the book, I know that does not affect the quality of the material in the book.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2024If you are an "old timer" like me, you will know that in the world of Microsoft endpoint/config management, a lot has changed regarding their products and their names—does anyone remember SMS, SCCM, or Endpoint Manager?
While "Intune" might be the latest name for Microsoft Endpoint Manager, the changes are much more significant than the name alone; this brings me to why I found this book a real treat. Microsoft's rapid pace of innovation means I am forever playing the catch-up game in understanding and learning about their new products and features. The first goldmine I hit was in Chapter 1 - if you read this chapter alone, you would come away with an excellent understanding of the Microsoft product ecosystem. Most of the time, having this awareness level is perfect for a meaningful discussion with my customers and colleagues. Want to know what makes up the Microsoft 365 cloud services - read chapter 1; want to know about Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Windows 365 - read chapter 1; want to know about the different Copilots - read chapter 1 ...
This book is about Microsoft Intune, and chapter 3 is where it all begins; the scenario-based discussions, along with real-world deployments, provide the right insights into the critical considerations for deploying and managing the Intune solution. The same approach and style are maintained throughout the remainder of the book, regardless of whether the topic in question is basic or advanced. To summarise, if you are an IT professional of any calibre, there will be something for you in this book.

This book explores the architecture of of Windows 365 and gives you the ability to set up and configure high end deployments. the book demystifies the magic behind 365 and creates the ability for easy deployment. Even those who are new to VDI infrastructure will. Intune Suite and the ability to leverage a Extreme level of security is one of the best features. As work from home has become a staple our current business society, this book offers a solid understanding of endpoint management. I have to admit that this book up my game in Microsoft solutions wile presenting me to whole new environment and way of thinking with Microsoft Intunes. A great b ook to add to your cyber library.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2024Received an advance copy of the latest edition of the Microsoft Intune guide, and it's a must-have for IT professionals aiming to adeptly oversee and fortify devices and applications through Microsoft Intune. Previously, the initial edition of this book was my primary reference for all things Microsoft Intune, and this updated version surpasses it!
Delving into both fundamental concepts and complex scenarios, the book excels in providing comprehensive coverage. From essential insights into Microsoft 365 and Windows 365 to in-depth explorations of Windows deployment, Autopilot, management policies, Cloud PKI, Copilot, AI, and beyond, it leaves no stone unturned. Essentially, it encapsulates all that's cutting-edge and engaging in the realm of Windows deployments and management. A stellar asset for navigating the demands of the contemporary workplace!
